Are you a designer who wants to attend hackathons, but think they aren’t for you? Are you an engineer who wants to improve your design thinking?

This 3-hour workshop is for designers & engineers looking to attend (and win!) hackathons with better design & improved UX. We will focus on giving you a toolbox of skills and strategies to help you plan and design your project. Due to the time constraints of a hackathon (most take place in 24 to 48 hours) there’s a greater need to drill down into design basics so you can hit your idea out of the park and walk away with something great for your portfolio.

During this workshop you’ll –

  1. Learn to identify design goals for a hackathon project

  2. Develop your ideas through quick drafts & group feedback

  3. Share resources & meet potential teammates

This workshop is for women and nonbinary folks only!

Dassi is a UX researcher, designer and manager who is committed to helping companies turn complex systems into simple, efficient and beautiful experiences for human beings. She has been designing and launching consumer-facing experiences for some 15 years, having launched products at AOL, Plaxo/Comcast and Blurb. Most recently, she taught the UX immersive at General Assembly.

  • Do you have a world-changing idea but lack the tech skills to bring it to life?

  • Would you like to attend your first hackathon but aren’t sure what you would do there?

  • Are you a programmer who would like to learn how to better work with non-tech teammates?

Hackathons are traditionally attended by experienced programmers, so it can be tough to figure out where you fit and how to help if you’re a non-tech founder. But hey, there are lots of ways for you to contribute that allow the developer on the team to focus on building the technology.

This workshop will be your how-to guide for being the best teammate possible even if you can’t code!

Some of the topics we’ll be covering will include;

  • Coming up with good ideas

  • Communicating your idea to team members

  • Collaborating effectively

  • Research, copywriting, & content creation

  • Time management

  • Presentation skills

This fully interactive FREE workshop is open to all potential Hack the Patriarchy hackathon attendees — women, trans, and nonbinary only — to gear up and get excited and educated before our big hackathon in October!
